SSPECIAL OLYMPICS
TEAM GB - China 2007

In October 2007, 155 British Athletes with learning disabilities and 50 coaches, will be traveling to China to represent Great Britain at the Special Olympics World Summer Games. Over 7,000 athletes from 160 countries will be taking part in 21 different sports, making it by far the biggest disability sporting event in the World that year.

The British squad will compete in 16 including: Aquatics, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Cycling, Equestrian, Football, Golf, Gymnastics, Judo, Kayaking, Power lifting, Sailing, Table Tennis, Ten Pin Bowling and Tennis.

All those selected will have worked their way up through local, regional and national events and will have competed in the GB National Summer Games last year in Glasgow.

Unlike the Olympics & Paralympics, who are heavily funded by corporate sponsorship and Lottery Funding, Special Olympians have to fund themselves. All the Special Olympic Clubs and Regions around the country are fervourously raising money to help make this awesome, once in a lifetime opportunity a reality for our athletes.
